Hydropower Session at World Bank--
US
Hydropower has been asked to coordinate a panel presentation on hydropower
development and investment issues for World Bank on Wednesday, September 10, from
12:30-2:00 p.m. The goal of this
session will be to create a program which helps industry mitigate market
risk. If you are interested in
participating in this panel, please contact us.
Success on Program Request
for 2004—
The 2004 Appropriations bill is expected to move ahead in the next 30-60 days. US Hydropower worked with several house and senate offices including Knollenberg, Nethercutt, Jackson, Obey, Hobson, Stevens, DeWine, Byrd, Durbin, Specter, Murray, and Burns to build support for a $4 million multi-agency public private sector program to support our efforts. This year we have been working with members of the foreign operations and energy and water subcommittees to establish programs with the US Agency for International Development, and the US Department of Energy. The House and Senate did include language in the subcommittee markup on Foreign Operations.
Mexico and
Central America Activities—
- US Hydropower participated in the USAID Mexico strategic planning session June 10-12, 2003 in Chihuahua, Mexico. US Hydropower will be a partner in the hydropower program as part of the USAID Mexico Mission strategy. This partnership will promote small hydropower and rehabilitation of existing generation.
- Upcoming Visit to US by USAID Mexico delegation September-October 2003
- Prioritization of rehabilitation opportunities and small projects in Mexico is planned –September-November 2003
India Activities—
US Hydropower participated in an Indian delegation visit last month from the state of Uttar Pradesh, and several near term activities are planned in this market. These include;

with the White House on India Economic Dialogue (August, 2003)

Working
Group visit to India (September, 2003)
o
Meetings
with IREDA on new finance mechanism
(September, 2003)
o
Major
US industry mission to India (10-14 days, November 2003)
